Turkey's Ankaragucu club president Faruk Koza has been banned from football by the country's Football Federation (TFF) for life after punching a referee. Koza punched the referee after the 1-1 draw between Ankaragucu and Rizespor in the country's top league last Monday night.

The TFF also said that Super League club Ankaragucu will also have to pay a fine of 20 million liras (about 7.5 million 52 thousand rupees in Bangladeshi currency). And because of unrest between club officials and fans, Ankaragucu will have to play five matches at home without spectators. Apart from this, other officials of the club have also been banned, fined and warned for various periods in the incident of punching.

After the match against Rijespor, Koza entered the field and punched referee Halil Umut in the face. Rizespor equalized in the 97th minute, after which the president of the Ankaragucu club made the incident. Halil was also kicked on the ground. Koza was arrested by the police the next day. The Turkish Football Federation has suspended all league matches. After a week break, the matches will resume from next Tuesday. Meanwhile, referee Halil left the hospital last Wednesday with swollen and sore eyes.

The news agency AFP reported that Koca was being considered as a possible candidate for the mayor of the capital Ankara. After the incident of punching, he resigned from his position in the club. Koza could not accept seeing a red card for one of his own players and conceding an equalizer in stoppage time. He lost his temper and attacked the referee.
